About Us

The Jedediah Smith Chapter was organized on November 28, 1977. Mrs. Oliver C. Byerly (Margaret) was the first regent. The chapter's name was chosen in honor of Jedediah Smith, a young, religious mountain man who traveled through the Mojave desert by way of the Mojave River Trail where many chapter members live and travel many miles to attend meetings. Most members are from the Mojave desert area, however some members are from other areas as well. Local residency is not a requirement for membership in any chapter.

We welcome any woman for membership who is over 18 years of age and who is descended from a man or woman who aided in achieving American Independence during the period between April 19, 1775, and November 26, 1783.
